Uttar Pradesh: Turned away by two hospitals, asthma patient dies due to lack of oxygen in Meerut

The patient, a resident of Rajban in Meerut district, was turned away by two private hospitals before he was admitted to LLRM Medical College. He later died due to lack of oxygen.

Meerut: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old asthma patient died for want of oxygen at LLRM Medical College in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. 

Initially, the patient was turned away by local two private hospitals fearing he may have coronavirus infection. Later, he was admitted to the COVID-19 ward of the LLRM Medical College.

According to a report in Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, the youth's coronavirus report was negative. The victim, who was a resident of Rajban, was an asthma patient. He was getting treatment from a doctor in Begum Bagh. 

On Wednesday, the patient developed breathing problem and he was rushed to a private hospital near Chippi Tank but was turned away over COVID-19 fears.  

Later, he was rushed to another hospital at Garh Road but doctors there refused to provide treatment to the patient.

However, on a doctor's recommendation, the patient was provided an ambulance with an oxygen cylinder and rushed to Meerut Medical College. For half and hour, no treatment was administered to the patient at the medical college. 

After some time, the patient was shifted to COVID-19 ward where he was given oxygen. Shockingly, the two cylinders ran out of oxygen within 15 minutes and the search for the third cylinder began for the patient. In the meantime, the patient's condition deteriorated and doctors started preparation to put him on the ventilator but he died before that.
