A 60-year-old COVID-19 male patient has committed suicide at SevenHills Hospital in Andheri on Saturday.

According to the MIDC police, the patient was admitted on the eight floor of the hospital. On Saturday morning, the doctors on their visit did not find the patient on his bed, thinking the patient might have gone somewhere the doctors moved on to inspect other patients. However, when he did not return even after 45 minutes, the doctors grew suspicious and they started to look for him.

While checking the terrace, they found his body hanging on the metal angle. He hung himself with a payjama said an officer. Police did not find a suicide note from him.

"Since the SevenHill hospital is a dedicated COVID-19 hospital, we cannot enter and neither we have access to any doctor. We are yet to contact his family as well," said a police official.

"Following the incident we have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and our investigation is underway," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 10, Ankit Goyal

The patient, a resident of Hariyali Village in Vikhroli was first admitted to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar on May 1, he was shifted to SevenHills Hospital on May 7 after testing positive for COVID19.

Earlier, on April 15, a 29-year-old woman who had tested positive for coronavirus had allegedly committed suicide at the BYL Nair Hospital in the city. The police had said she hanged herself with a dupatta in the bathroom of ward number 25.

Meanwhile, the total COVID-19 positive cases in the state of Maharashtra is inching towards the 20,000 mark. Mumbai, alone, has crossed 12,000 cases. The death toll in Mumbai stands at 462 on Saturday.
