Lockdown stress: Three people commit suicide in Koparkhairane in 3 days

One suffered from loneliness, another was frustrated at not being able to pay EMIs, and the third was desperate for alcohol
Unable to cope with the psychological distress caused by over 50 days of lockdown, three people in three separate incidents committedsuicide in Navi Mumbai ’s Koparkhairane in the last three days.
In the first incident, a 27-yearold engineer living alone at sector 4 of Koparkhairane ended his life after being consumed by loneliness.
Suraj Surve, a bachelor working with a private firm in Airoli, was living with his married brother’s family till they shifted to their hometown around the time the lockdown started.
On Tuesday afternoon, Surve was spotted hanging in his house by neighbours who used to provide him food. He left a suicide note behind admitting that he had been feeling lonely and depressed and missing his family.
The very next day, a 31year old auto driver committed suicide by hanging himself at sector 2 when he realised he wouldn’t be able to pay installments of the loan he had taken to buy an auto.
Cops said the victim,Shivkumar Vasant Gupta , had bought a brand new auto three months ago.
However, the vehicle has been lying idle since the lockdown started. Bereft of a source of income and unable to pay EMI, Gupta took the extreme step.
In the third incident, a 47 year old man, a resident of sector 2, jumped off from the third floor of a building after he was unable to get liquor.
Murali Khandare lived with his wife and children. Due to the lockdown he couldn’t consume liquor and was extremely frustrated, his family members said.
The local police have filed accidental death report (ADR) in all the cases.
