Chhattisgarh: Covid-19 suspect under home quarantine commits suicide in Dhamtari
RAIPUR: A 35-year-old person who had travelled from
Tamil Naduand was under
home quarantinecommitted suicide in Dhamtari district on Monday. Body of the man was found hanging few kilometers away from his house on the outskirts of a village, police said.
The deceased identified as
Ganpat Markam, a resident of Tangapani region was found hanging from a tree near a pond by the locals.
According to Manisha Thakur, Dhamtari additional SP, Markam used to work in Tamil Nadu and had returned home on March 20. As he had a travel history from another state, the health department on March 22 advised him to remain in home quarantined for 14 days.
Chief medical officer Dhamtari DK Turrey told media that a team of health workers would everyday visit him for regular check-ups till March 29. He showed no symptom of flu or fever. His body was found hanging with a towel in the morning.
A government press release states that Markam’s wife had died a year ago and he was disturbed with her demise, also, he had a son who lived with relatives in another village.
Neighbours informed the district administration that Markam was an alcoholic and did not interact much with them. Sources said that he was upset with being under home quarantine and was depressed. He used to walk out of the house violating quarantine rules. He used to say, he’s healthy and doesn’t need to be in isolation.
There are over 1600 perople with travel history in home isolation in Dhamtari district.
