Lockdown woes: Financial problems drive Telangana woman to suicide
HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old housewife committed
suicideby setting herself ablaze due to financial troubles during the lockdown on Saturday night at
Parigi.
The victim was identified as Sarala, a resident of Parigi town. According to police, Sarala’s husband,
Narasimha, who works as a private car driver has not been getting any work for the past two months due to lockdown.
“Lack of income has pushed the family into financial hardships. The couple had to mortgage Sarala’s four tola gold to clear debts and meet the expenses of family,” Parigi SI Venkatesh said.
At around 10.30pm on Saturday, while the family members were watching TV after dinner, Sarala went into the bathroom and set herself ablaze using kerosene. “Engulfed in flames, screaming, she ran into the front room of the house and collapsed there on the floor. Family members doused the flames and alerted by neighbours, fire tender also reached the place. However, due to severe burns she died on the spot,” the SI said.
Sarala did not leave a suicide note. She is survived by her husband and two children. “Family members said that
financial problemswere the reason for her suicide. Based on their complaint, we registered a case under section 174 of CrPC,” the SI said.
