The fear of Covid-19 forced a public distribution scheme dealer V Srinivas Rao (in photo) to commit suicide in Telangana's Suryapet district.

The deceased allegedly self-immolated by pouring kerosene at Karivirala village in Suryapet district.

According to the police, Srinivas Rao had been suffering from fever for some days and had consulted doctors at a private hospital. Doctors found him to be suffering from normal fever.

Though he had no foreign travel history or come in contact with any positive patient, he developed the fear of contracting Covid-19. Panicked over his condition, Rao committed suicide at his farm.

Police have taken the body for postmortem and appealed people to not panic over the coronavirus spread.

The police requested people to follow proper hygiene and lockdown and if having any symptom, follow quarantine procedure with the consultation of a doctor.
