Nine migrants have died in a collision between a truck and a bus at Naugachiya in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. The accident took place on Tuesday morning on NH31 when the truck carrying these migrants rammed into a bus. The Aadhaar cards recovered from the accident site shows that those killed were from East Champaran in Bihar and were on their way back home.
The bus which was also carrying migrants was on its way to Banka from Darbhanga. The SDO of Naugachiya Mukesh Kumar said that these migrants had taken a lift from the truck driver and most of them lost their lives as they were crushed by the iron rods that were loaded on the truck, meanwhile, it is suspected that some more migrants might have been trapped and rescue operation is underway.
Officials said that five more migrants who were travelling in the bus have been injured and have been sent to the Sadar hospital in Naugachiya for treatment.
The driver and cleaner of the truck, which was coming from West Bengal via Katihar district in Bihar have fled from the spot. The Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar has expressed his condolence over the loss of lives in this accident and has announced Rs 4 lakh as ex gratia to the kin of each of those killed in this accident.
The CM also directed officials to provide adequate treatment to those injured in this accident and has said that the government would provide all the help to those injured. Meanwhile, the CM of Bihar Nitish Kumar has appealed to the people of the state to refrain from travelling on trucks and other vehicles without proper government orders, he said that migrants coming to the state should approach authorities if they face difficulties in reaching their native places.
