Ajmer: To prevent the further spread of coronavirus, a lockdown was imposed across several states in the country. During the lockdown, only a small number of shops were allowed to operate and several businesses took a hit due to the same. Several businessmen faced losses as their lives came to a standstill during the pandemic.
A businessman and his family attempted suicide as they were struggling financially. The family took the drastic step on Tuesday at their residence in Shahpura, Bhilwara area of Ajmer. The businessman died while his wife and teenage son are said to be recovering.
The deceased was identified as Mohit Bilra. Bilra died on Monday while his wife Rinku and son Dev are undergoing treatment.
An investigation revealed that Mohit had taken a loan worth Rs 12 lakh and was struggling to repay it. As his business had taken a hit during the lockdown, Mohit was unable to pay three instalments of his loan.
Disturbed over the same, the 45-year-old man consumed poison along with his family in a bid to end his suffering.
The police told The Times of India that Rinku was unable to speak to the police as she had not recovered completely. The police said that the family had been struggling with depression due to their financial position.
The deceased's 17-year-old son Dev was recovering but was unable to speak to the police. The doctors also prevented the police from speaking to the 17-year-old boy.
According to the police, Mohit was the owner of a textile shop in Azad Chowk, Bhilwara. The police, however, were suspicious that another reason might have prompted the family to attempt suicide.
